Special Chinatown Walk Tour : Follow in the footsteps of gold miners, merchants, labourers and revolutionaries as we wend our way along Chinatown’s main streets and then weave into Fan Tan Alley (the city’s most infamous thoroughfare).
Find out why Victoria has Canada’s oldest Chinatown, once the country’s largest.
Discover how to play fan tan (once a popular gambling game) in famous Fan Tan Alley.
Symbolism, architecture, and history are highlighted and the truth is revealed about opium dens, secret societies, and hidden tunnels. Learn about the discriminatory laws that once oppressed the Chinese and about the long but successful struggle to repeal them.
Discover the links with French families and learn more their connections with the neighbourhood .
