TCF French exam at Alliance Française Victoria

The TCF-Canada (Test de Connaissance du Français) is a French language proficiency test that meets the standards of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). TCF-Canada results are accepted for the purposes of economic immigration or for obtaining Canadian citizenship.

The TCF-Canada consists of four mandatory parts. It evaluates general French language proficiency in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and writing.

There are 39 multiple choice questions for listening comprehension; 39 multiple choice questions for the reading comprehension with only one correct answer possible; 3 speaking tasks, organized according to a progressively increasing level of difficulty; and 3 writing tasks,  with a progressively increasing level of difficulty. The levels correspond to the benchmarks specified by the European Framework for Language Learning, Teaching and Evaluation as well as the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

All exams are computer based will take place in-person, 1218 Langley Street, Victoria, BC

All exams take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
We recommend keeping your entire day free, as exact exam times are subject to scheduling. You will receive an official email invitation with your specific exam time approximately one week before your test date.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

💰 Can I request a refund?
As per our policies, any purchase of a TEF or TCF is final. No refund,  nor credit  will be issued if you decide/cannot take the exam. No possibility to reshedule or transfer your exam to another person neither.

📍Where does the exam take place? Is it online?
All exams will take place in-person, 2-1218 Langley Street, Victoria, BC. 

📧 When will I receive my notification letter? 
We send out notification letters about one week before the exam date. If you filled out the registration form and submitted it, it means that we received your documents. We will contact you in case we need anything else. 

⏰ When is the exam? Do I need to take the day off?

💻 What material will be used for the exam?
We provide all the materials. Each candidate will use a computer with a QWERTY layout, headphones are used for the listening and a virtual keyboard with special letters appears on the screen during the writing. These three sections are held one after another in the same room.

📜 How will I receive my results? What's the timeline?
Both results for TEF and TCF exams will be delivered by email, it can take up to 4 weeks for the TCF and 2 weeks for the TEF.

⚠️ What if I need special accommodations?
If candidates require special arrangements to take the exam (extra time and/or an individual room due to ADHD or other needs), the TEF exam is the preferred option. A medical certificate must be provided minimum two weeks prior to the exam date in order to receive such accommodations.
